Marvel Poster Reveals Viral Mystery of Why Kid Wouldn't Sleep in His Room

In a recent post that has gone viral on social media, a mother asked for help from netizens to find out why her three-year-old son suddenly didn't want to go to his room, let alone sleep there. It turned out that the reason for her son's strange behavior was none other than a poster above his bed depicting dozens of Marvel Comics superheroes and super-villains.

The mother posted her thread titled “Breathless. My son suddenly won’t go to his room but won’t tell us why” to the popular Mommit subforum on Reddit, hoping that someone would have a solution to why her son suddenly refused to sleep in his room, out of nowhere, around the 4th of July. As it turns out, she fixed the problem herself and updated it a month later, which was then shared on the even MORE popular Reddit subforum, Best of Redditor Updates.

What happened to her son that made a user turn to Reddit for help?

The woman explained that she and her husband had recently moved into a new home with their son (who turns four this month), and one of the main things they wanted in their new home was for their son to have his own room. He had a Mario Kart-themed bed, and he seemed to love his room, spending a lot of time alone there playing with his toys. Then something changed on the Fourth of July.

She explained on July 20:

That night and every night since, he refuses to go into his room, insisting on sleeping in ours. He won't come in when we hold his hand, and if we do manage to get him in for a second to get a particular toy, he doesn't follow through and immediately runs out into the hallway. He has no problem taking a bath in his bathroom across the hall, but he insists that we keep the bathroom door closed. Then he runs straight from the bathroom to our bedroom.

A few days later, she began to speculate that a squirrel running around on the roof near her room might be scaring her. Other commenters speculated that he might be embarrassed or ashamed of something. As one commenter noted, “I’m guessing he’s scared or ashamed. It could be fireworks like others mentioned or it could be really ridiculous. I hope it’s not a ghost. I think he pooped in the closet, had a toilet accident, threw up, broke something, or knocked something over. Have you taken the room apart to make sure it’s not different?”

19 days later, the woman came back to explain that she had solved the problem. She had gently convinced her son to look around his room with her and show her different objects in the room to see how he would react. When she showed him the Marvel Comics poster above, he panicked and ran into their room and hid under their covers.

She took the poster down and walked it past her and her husband's room, where her son was. "I stopped in our room to confirm and he freaked out when he saw I was holding it. I told him it was going in the trash and he would never see it again. I hid it downstairs to dispose of it later, came back up and told him it was gone. He jumped out of our bed and ran down the hall to his room and jumped up and down in excitement saying, 'THE EVIL FACE IS GONE!!!' He then screamed in excitement about his Mario Kart bed, threw my pillow [the mother had been sleeping in her son's bed while the son was sleeping with her husband in their bedroom during all of this]threw his Mario pillow and went to bed! I was so thrilled that I danced with him the rest of the night singing “NO MORE EVIL FACE.” We played with all the toys he was missing. He slept in his room that night and has been spending even more time in his room playing by himself ever since. He tells me every night that the evil face is gone and his room is fun.

The mother speculated that it was probably Ego the Living Planet or MODOK, but it MAY have been Arnim Zola too...
